"The success of Yoga does not lie in the ability to perform postures but in how it positively changes the way we live our life and our relationships"

About Me

Denby Eardley

After over 30 years in the NSW Police, I was medically discharged with PTSD, anxiety and a range of physical injuries. I was broken, shattered with no self-esteem after feeling like I had lost my whole identity.  My whole world felt like it had been tipped upside down and I was encouraged to go to yoga by a friend.  I resisted at first as I was pretty much a gym junkie and was very skeptical of what it would do for me. I found myself outside a yoga studio and it soon became my whole purpose to keep going.  I fell in love with how it made me feel, the movement, the breathing and the reconnection of my body to my mind and to my breath.  It became my solace.  I found my anxiety started to decrease and over the years I have learnt to bring yoga and mindfulness into the way I live my life every day.

At my lowest point I went on my first yoga retreat, where with the amazing space and support that was provided by my beautiful teacher,  'I felt my heart beat again.' It was here that I realised I wanted to learn more and delve down the rabbit hole of yoga, so upon my return I signed up and completed my Yoga teacher training.

I have always wanted to 'give back' to First Responders as I am passionate about sharing the practice in the hope that I can help someone feel the way I do when I practice.  My goal is to run retreats to help peel back all the things that we think define us - we need to separate the person from the persona.

I have completed hundreds of hours of further training including Trauma Aware Yoga, in order to deepen my awareness and understanding how trauma affects the mind and the body.

I am a late starter with my practice - starting just before I turned 50 - and I love every minute I am 'on my mat'.  I often say that I wish I had started yoga earlier, but the reply I get back from many of my  teachers is that "You started yoga when you needed to'  So, with that, I am extremely grateful that I found 'my mat and yoga' when I did.  I am here now to help support and encourage anyone else that thinks the same, to realise you too are starting when the time is right for you.

"Yoga is a light, which once lit, will never dim.  The better your practice, the brighter the flame"
